Is Marine Phytoplankton the Best Superfood?

Our soil is rapidly becoming depleted of its valuable minerals and especially trace minerals, which affect our food supply and ultimately our health. Added to this is the tendency we have to eat fast and prepared foods on the run, and we have a nutritional crisis going on. This can be seen by the poor quality of health found in most developed nations. We can take a vitamin pill, but even if some of it is absorbed, it still doesn’t cover the vast amount of missing nutrients in our diet.

That’s why many experts agree that it is important to supplement your diet with superfoods. Superfoods are whole foods that have a natural concentrated abundance of nutrition and phytonutrients in a form that the body can easily absorb and utilize. Phytonutrients are natural plant-based chemicals that promote proper metabolic functions, such as: general nutrition, cardiovascular health, cholesterol, blood sugars, neurological support, skin care, vision, liver health, and energy.

A few of the many popular superfoods right now are:

Blueberries– which are high in antioxidant compounds called anthocyanins that reduce free-radicals in the body, which may help to slow the aging process.

Leafy Dark Green Vegetables– such as spinach, kale, swiss chard and romaine lettuce. They contain beta-carotene, lutein and zeaxanthin that work together to support overall health, as well as vitamin B and some minerals.

Omega-3 Fish– Cold-water fish like cod, wild salmon, tuna and trout contain beneficial omega-3 fatty acids. Research shows that consumption of EPA and DHA omega-3 fatty acids may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease.

Sea Vegetables (Seaweed)– have anti-inflammatory and stress-relief qualities, as well as the ability to lower the risk of heart disease. Certain types of seaweed, such as kelp, also have very high levels of iodine, which is essential in regulating the thyroid — the gland that controls most of the body’s physiological functions. Some varieties of sea vegetables can be a great sources of vitamin B, magnesium, iron, folate, and calcium.

All these powerhouse foods, and others like them, are important to consume on a regular basis. Even if you eat a well balanced organic diet, and are getting most of what you need, a trace mineral could be chronically missing from your diet. Without this mineral, you could find it hard to stay energetic and may even effect your weight your moods your hormones and many other areas of your health. So supplementing with superfoods may be the answer.

One of the most complete whole food superfoods in the world is marine phytoplankton. Phytoplankton are collectively known as micro algae. These single-cell plants are the basis of all other life forms on planet earth, they are the ‘vegetation’ of the ocean. Phytoplankton are responsible for making up to 90% of Earth’s oxygen.

Marine phytoplankton have the unique ability to transform sunlight, raw inorganic minerals, and carbon dioxide into invaluable superfood for living things. Phytoplankton have all the vitamins, minerals (from 200 sea vegetables), essential fatty acids, antioxidants, amino acids that are required for good health. And since they are so nutrient dense, very little is required to achieve significant nutritional benefit.

Marine phytoplankton are a better source of minerals than any other vegetable because they contains all the minerals found in human blood, because the minerals in sea water are similar to those found in our blood, with nearly identical concentrations.

The best source of marine phytoplankton is in an amazing product called FrequenSea™. With over 200 types of diverse chlorophyll rich plankton nutrients for achieving maximum health benefits, FrequenSea™ is one of the best tasting and healthiest supplements ever made.

    Micronutrients, Antioxidants and the Superfoods

By Ryan Joseph Platinum Quality AuthorThere are a variety of different “superfoods” which provide essential vitamins, antioxidants, energy enhancers, macro minerals, lipotropic factors, and other key nutrients which have been known to help minimize free radical formation that speeds up the aging process and supports optimal heart, brain and immune functioning. Bluberries, for instance, are rated as a superfood because they are very dense in the antioxidants called anthocyannins, which are also present in blackberries.

Berries in general are among the foods which are the most antioxidant-dense. Cranberries, Strawberries, Bilberries, Cherries and Raspberries have a particularly high ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorption Capacity) Value.

Spirulina is a considered a superfood because it is a”live” food which is extremely protein dense. Many of the nutrients in superfoods simply are not found in everyday foods. Lutein, for example is found in leafy green vegetables such as Popeye’s favorite superfood, Spinach. Among other benefits, Lutein acts as an antioxidant in the eye protecting cells from harmful free radicals. Our bodies do not produce lutein, it must be consumed in our food. Grapes are another major superfood. Grape Seed Extract in particular is well known for its proanthocyanadins and actually contains more antioxidant power than vitamins E, C or Beta Carotene.

It is a tremendous free radical fighter which is noted for cardiovascular health, brain health and even mental alertness. That is why it is found in many of the better supplements out there. Oh yeah, grapes and grape juice by themselves are pretty good for you as well.

Green Tea and Green Tea extract qualifies a bona fide superfood also. There are 4 principle polyphenols in green tea which are sometimes referred to as catechins. These super-antioxidants have been shown in various research studies to support the immune system, support healthy aging as well as to have a beneficial effect on the cardiovascular health. It is considered by some researchers to aid in fat usage rather than deposition. Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) is another key antioxidant found in green tea. It is at least one hundred more times more effective than vitamin C and some twenty-five times more effective than vitamin E at protecting cells and DNA!

Pineapple and Papaya qualify because they feature proteolytic enzymes that are needed for the restoration of old cells and the building of new ones. They also have a systemic cellular anti-inflammatory action and they are noted for their helpful effects on joints, blood clotting as well as on the respiratory system. They offer superb support for the immune system. Other foods which could be called superfoods or at least close to it are Wild Salmon (fish oil is extremely rich in the crucial omega-3 fatty acids epa and dha), black beans (high in protein and antioxidants) and Watermelon(this fruit has the most antioxidants of any)

    Nutritional Supplements Health Food

By Jean Helmet Platinum Quality Author

    • Many people suffer from nutritional deficiencies because regular meals do not provide enough nutrients to meet recommended daily allowances (RDA). Nutritional supplements health food provide a good source of additional nutrients necessary to meet RDAs and maintain proper bodily functions. They also prevent illnesses caused by lack of nutrients, such as anemia, goiter, and high or low blood pressure. Most health stores and pharmacies carry a variety of nutritional supplements health food to address different nutritional needs.

It is important to choose the right nutritional supplements health food to ensure fast, long-term results. Here are some of the most common types and what they can do for you:

    1. Herbs and herbal supplements

Herbs are a staple in low-fat cooking because they enhance flavor without adding fat or sugars to the food. But they also contain antioxidants, which help fight free radicals that cause cell and immune damage. Curry spices, dill, ginger, rosemary, and sage are all rich in antioxidants.

You can also take herbs in supplement form to better control . Liquid supplements are better than solids because they are absorbed faster and they can be mixed in with drinks.

    2. Fish oils

Fish oils are a rich source of omega-3 fatty acids, a key element in preventing heart disease. Health experts recommend eating two to three servings of oily fish per week. Oily fish includes trout, salmon, mackerel, herring, tuna (fresh, not canned), and carp.

Fish oil supplements are available as well. Cod liver oil is available in liquid and capsule forms. There are also concentrated fish oil capsules, but liver oils have much higher vitamin A and D content.

    3. Vitamin and mineral supplements

Fruits and vegetables are the primary sources of vitamins and minerals, which help sustain bodily processes such as blood cell production and sensory function. However, since most foods contain only a selection of nutrients, most doctors recommend nutritional supplements health food to meet RDAs. Multivitamins combine essential vitamins and minerals in one dose, making them ideal for diabetics and people on weight-loss diets, who have limited food choices.

WARNING: Some health supplements contain chemicals that can he harmful to your health, such as sugar, starch, silica, and gluten. To stay safe, make sure the nutritional supplements health food you choose is GMP-compliant. This ensures that the product passes stringent quality and safety standards. About Liquid Vitamins and Minerals and the New Nutritional Paradigm

    • By Judy Brown
    • Liquid vitamins are the same vitamins that you find in any supermarket or health store, but are suspended in a liquid mixture. This new method of taking liquid nutritional supplements is becoming extraordinarily popular in today’s progressive healthcare marketplace. The average consumer wants the most for their money and is becoming more knowledgeable about products or services that offer the most benefit. It is no wonder more people are adding liquid vitamins and minerals to their daily supplementation.

People are discovering that liquid vitamins and nutritional supplements are much easier to take and ingest than the traditional pill form. If you’ve ever taken lots of vitamin supplements or medications you might know how uncomfortable it can be to swallow and digest a handful of “horse pills”. Researchers are also discovering that liquid vitamins may be more effective than swallowing pills. The liquid vitamin and mineral form doesn’t need to be broken down by our digestive system and is much more readily absorbed by our bodies. Supplementing your body with liquid minerals and vitamin nutrients can help create the optimal environment in the body for maximal life expectancy by replenishing nutritional deficiencies. There are some Eastern cultures that have people routinely living to ages in the range of 120 to 140 years old (ex: the Hunzas). The common link that these amazing cultures share to make these astounding life-spans possible is the daily ingestion of, and farmland cultivation with “glacial milk”. This “glacial milk” is ordinary water that is naturally combined with high amounts of essential and rare minerals and other nutrients.

There’s no doubt that liquid vitamins are growing in popularity as more people discover them. More and more liquid vitamin products are hitting the health market as consumers are changing the way they want to take their nutritional supplements.

Foods Today Have Much Less Nutrition Than in the Past!

Many of us think that we are eating healthy, although there is no doubt that Americans eat some unhealthy junk foods. An alarming new study published in the Journal of Food Composition and Analysis reveals that Americans are getting nearly one-third of their calories from junk foods.

But even if we are trying to eat as healthy as we can, the foods that we think are healthy are often far less nutritious than they used to be. It is no coincidence that the quality of healthy food has been deteriorating as malnourishment and illness have been on the rise in the U.S. and other developed countries.

Here’s what several notable experts in the field have to say about the quality of our food today:

    * “Wheat from the US has been rejected at China’s ports because the protein content was so low,” states Dr. Michael Colgan, LaJolla, CA.

    * A statement from the Agricultural Testament given to the Congress of the United States states “the impoverished soil of America no longer provides plant food with the mineral elements essential to human nourishment and health.”

    * Dr. Alexis Carrel, Nobel Prize Winner says, “Chemical fertilizers, by increasing the abundance of the crops without replacing all the exhausted elements of the soil, have indirectly contributed to change the nutritive value of cereal grains and vegetables.”

A recent analysis of a range of staple foods in Canada, commissioned by The Globe and Mail and CTV news, included potatoes, tomatoes, bananas, apples, onion and broccoli.

This is what the analysis found for potatoes:

Over the last 50 years the potato has lost:

    * 100% of its Vitamin A
    * 57% of its Vitamin C and iron.
    * 28% of its Calcium.
    * 50% of its riboflavin
    * 18% of its thiamin

Of the seven nutrients analyzed only niacin levels had increased. The results were similar for all the 25 fruits and vegetables tested. One of the worst results was from broccoli in which ALL nutrients had declined measurably including niacin, with Calcium down 63%.

Tim Lang a professor at the center for Food Policy in England says as a further example of how our food has been degraded is that you would now have to eat eight oranges today to get the same amount of Vitamin A that your grandparents got from eating just one orange.

These foods that have low nutritional values play an important part in obesity and poor health in general. How can the body function when it doesn’t get the good fuel it needs? Many experts believe that the human body is capable of healing itself of every disease known to man. However,we must give it what it requires to heal itself and stop interfering with its innate healing process.

What can be done about this problem?

    * Try to eat organic fruit and vegetables wherever possible.
    * Avoid processed and junk foods! Not only are they nutritionally empty, but they have harmful ingredients that poison the body, such as trans-fats due to the hydrogenated processing methods that are used.
    * Take a quality nutritional supplement. A multi-vitamin/mineral tablet is not adequate because they use synthetic ingredients with both questionable efficacy and bio-availability. They isolate a few nutrients and leave out many other important nutrients. Find a nutritional supplement that is made of whole foods. It should be raw so you get all the enzymes you need as well.

The best raw whole food supplement I have ever found is called FrequenSea™ by ForeverGreen. It is a raw food liquid supplement based on the powerful nutrition of marine phytoplankton.

Are You Malnourished? - Part 1

According to the dictionary “malnourished” means not being provided with adequate nourishment. The first thing that usually comes to mind when the word malnourished is used is the images we have seen of starving children in Africa and other third world countries. But are you aware that at the majority of Americans are malnourished?

Is it possible that we can be malnourished while eating a full plate of food? Absolutely! Malnourishment is without doubt a leading factor in a wide variety of health problems including cancers.

America is a sick country! Nearly 99% of its inhabitants suffer in some manner. Untold millions suffer from excruciating pains and throes of cancer, arthritis, asthma, and other chronic diseases. This has been confirmed by studies showing people in the US, Canada and the UK are amongst the most malnourished in the world. This is the case, in spite of obesity reaching epidemic proportions in the US. And obese people are some of the most malnourished people!

    Consider These Facts:

    * Today 86% of America’s children cannot pass a minimum physical fitness test. That compares to 58.6% in 1954.

    * Some 1,500 billion dollars ($1.5 trillion) were spent in 1995 on health care (mostly on illnesses).

    * In 1900 diabetes was the 27th leading cause of death. Today it is the 3rd leading cause of death. Insulin was discovered in 1922.

    * One out of five Americans under the age of 17 already has a chronic disease.

    * Three out of ten Americans (33%) will have cancer this year. 80% of these people will die and their death will be attributed to cancer.

    * Arthritis and rheumatic complaints will affect 77% of our adult population.

    * About 22% of Americans suffer from allergies.

    * About 34% of Americans are obese, 60% are overweight. Yet nearly all Americans are malnourished in one way or another despite gross overeating.

    * Over 50% of Americans suffer from chronic digestive disorder.

    * Constipation is a national disease. Nine out of ten Americans suffer from clogged colons.

    * Surveys, tests and health evaluation programs reveal that American’s medical professionals (physicians) are sicker and more diseased than the average American.

    * According to the U.S. Statistical Abstract of 1992….. 98.5% of Americans are unhealthy! And the situation has only gotten worse since 1992!

Author Mike Adams says, “It explains why obesity is rampant, diabetes is epidemic, and chronic disease is skyrocketing: we are a nation of people who are simultaneously overfed and malnourished. In other words, we’re getting plenty of calories, but very little nutrition.”

According to Mike, an alarming new study published in the Journal of Food Composition and Analysis reveals that Americans are getting nearly one-third of their calories from junk foods such as soft drinks, sweets, desserts, alcoholic beverages, and salty snacks. These foods are filled with empty calories that have little or no nutritional value.

And even if we are trying to eat as healthy as we can, the foods that we think are healthy are far less nutritious than they used to be. It is no coincidence that the quality of healthy food has been deteriorating as malnourishment and illness have been on the rise.

    Mangosteen and Autism

Autism is generally considered an abnormality in brain structure or function. Once believed to be a rare disease, autism is now considered to be on the rise. It is estimated that almost one out of every 100 children is diagnosed as autistic. Autism is manifest in such behavior as self-injury, mood swings, isolation and verbal communication skill deficiencies. The exact cause of autism is not yet known, but there is scientific research that relates it to a myriad of conditions in the body. Gastrointestinal disorders, toxicity, neurogenic disorders, and poor dietary habits are some disorders that researchers believe could aggravate symptoms in autistic children and adults.

    AUTISM AND IMPAIRED CUT PERMEABILITY

There have been numerous studies that correlate abnormal gut permeability to gastrointestinal imbalances, food allergies, protein absorption problems, bacterial and fungal overgrowth, and nutritional deficiencies in tryptophan (an essential amino acid) and zinc. One study conducted in Rome found that 43 percent of autistic children had a higher rate of intestinal permeability when compared to a controlled group of other children. Researchers believed that an altered intestinal permeability could represent a possible mechanism for the increased passage through the gut mucosa of peptides derived from foods causing subsequent behavioral abnormalities. In other words, the GI function is abnormal and is allowing more amino acids (peptides) to permeate into the bloodstream than is needed for a healthy body. These scientists hypothesize that behavior abnormalities are caused by this increase of amino acids in the bloodstream. Because amino acids are primary building blocks of neurotransmitters (which influence mood and behavior), it is possible that any imbalance of amino acids in the body may have an effect on a person’s mood and behavior. Some researchers feel there is a correlation between symptoms in autistic children and amino acid digestion. Better digestion and assimilation of essential amino acids may play a prime role in the health of an autistic individual.

    AUTISM AND ESSENTIAL FATTY ACIDS

Another factor believed to possibly contribute to the rise in diagnoses of autism is an imbalance in fatty acid ratios. Essential fatty acids are critical for normal brain function, and low levels of essential fatty acids in the developmental stages can lead to abnormal brain development. The ratio between Omega 6 and Omega 3 intake diet is commonly out of balance. In the early 1900s, Omega 6:3 ratios were 4:1. In the late 1980s, this ration has risen to a staggering 25:1. This Omega 6 overbalance is due primarily to the increased use of vegetable oils and grain oils and the reduction of fish and flaxseed oils in our diets. Fatty acid imbalance causes a reaction throughout the body on the cellular level by stimulating the production of inflammatory prostaglandin that causes swelling at the cellular level throughout the body. Another possible complication from an overbalance of Omega 6 oils in the body is the oxidization of the cell membrane. Oxidation is linked to an increase in free radicals in the bloodstream. In addition, neurotransmitters like serotonin may also be affected by a fatty acid imbalance. In fact, one study demonstrated that autistic children were often found to have significantly higher Omega 6 levels. Low Omega 3 levels were linked to hyperactivity and frequent or excessive tantrums, both characteristic of autistic children. A researcher wrote, “Abnormalities of fatty acid and membrane phospholipids may play a part in a wide range of neurodevelopment and psychiatric disorders.” A possible treatment for fatty acid imbalances is to use something on a daily basis that has the ability to counter oxidation and the inflammatory processes that are both induced by dietary problems associated with fatty acid imbalance. Xanthones in mangosteen are powerful antioxidants and anti-inflammatory agents.

    AUTISM AND MELATONIN IMBALANCE

Melatonin is a hormone secreted in response to the light/dark cycle of the body. It also is responsible for controlling body temperature, hormonal changes, and the body’s internal clock. At night, melatonin levels rise in response to the body’s need to sleep. In the morning hours, these levels diminish, allowing the body to become more alert. Interruption in the sleep cycle has been linked to drops in melatonin production. Scientific research has suggested that autistic children are much more susceptible to sleep cycle disturbances. This suggests that children with autism may produce lower levels of melatonin so that their internal clocks are poorly regulated. Further more, clinical research has linked abnormal levels of tryptophan and serotonin, both of which the body uses as source material for producing melatonin, to autistic behavioral symptoms in adults. Melatonin is also a powerful antioxidant that has both fat and water-soluble qualities, allowing it to cross the blood/brain barrier. This is very important as it keeps the brain cells healthy and free from free radical oxidative stress, which may alleviate some autistic symptoms. Mangosteen’s xanthones help in preventing tryptophan, serotonin, and melatonin imbalances. This, in turn, may help symptoms of autism.

    AUTISM AND FOOD ALLERGIES

It has been noted that many autistic patients are sensitive to certain foods. Consumption of these foods appear to increase autistic symptoms and episodes of these patients. Children with autism may display increased permeability of the intestinal mucosa (leaky gut) allowing more peptides from foods to enter the bloodstream and trigger immune system reactions that may be associated with behavioral abnormalities. If this is the case, the anti-inflammatory capabilities of xanthones in mangosteen can have a positive effect on the reduction of allergic episodes in autistic patients. Not only do xanthones help ease inflammation of the gut, they also kill parasites and bacteria that aggravate GI inflammation and “leaky gut syndrome.”

    AUTISM AND HEAVY METALS

Children are particularly susceptible to the deleterious effects of heavy metal exposure for many reasons. First, their developing nervous systems are more sensitive. Second, their bodies absorb toxins more rapidly but clear them from the system more slowly than adults. Lastly, a child’s blood/brain barrier, the natural protective mechanism that blocks harmful substances from entering and damaging the brain, is not fully formed until age 1. Investigators have found that damage to the mucosa in the form of “leaky gut” has been present in over 40 percent of autistic children tested. This gastrointestinal dysfunction would allow greater amounts of toxins (heavy metals) to penetrate the gut barrier into the systemic circulation (blood stream), and thus increase the toxic burden in children unable to properly process this onslaught of toxic agents.

In other studies, scientists hypothesize that autistic children have problems metabolizing and detoxifying certain compounds due to an impaired biochemical process called sulfation (a process occurring in the liver). Sulfation plays an important role in the second phase of liver detoxification. Impaired sulfation could make autistic children more vulnerable to multiple chemical sensitivities. It could also explain an increase of behavioral problems after children eat foods containing phenol, tyramine, and phenyl compounds, which are normally neutralized through the sulfation process. Sulfation is a normal function of the liver. Phase 2 detoxification of the liver is dependent on normal gut function. “Leaky gut syndrome” is an abnormal function of the intestinal tract that leads to abnormal liver function. Through good diet and supplementation with mangosteen, we have the ability to change body function back to the norm. The tremendous anti-inflammatory abilities of xanthones and the juices powerful anti-oxidant capabilities may help reduce peptide imbalance caused by “leaky gut” and thereby relieve some autistic symptoms.

Now, there’s a company that makes mangosteen commercially available. The whole mangosteen fruit is pureed and bottled by Xango thru Wild Flavors as a juice.

RECOMMENDED SERVING WHEN DRINKING XANGO JUICE
